Custom Finned Tube Heat Exchanger

Send the duty, and we calculate the surface area and structure instead of forcing a catalogue model

Flue gas cooler with finned tubes

Overview

A catalogue heat exchanger only covers a limited range of duties. When air flow, medium or installation space falls outside that range, the unit either has excess surface, excessive pressure drop or will not fit. Custom design works the other way round: define the duty first, then derive the geometry and surface area.

Custom design is not an open-ended process. The boundary conditions have to be defined clearly. The more complete the parameters, the smaller the selection error and the closer the quotation is to the final price, which avoids repeated changes later.

Features

  • One-to-one design from air flow, gas flow, temperature, pressure, medium and envelope
  • Thermal and pressure-drop calculation before quotation
  • Any of six fin types and mixed tube / fin materials
  • Connection positions, casing and support built to the host equipment
  • Pressure-bearing fabrication and inspection available
  • Prototype and series supply

Parameters needed for a custom design

CategoryParameters
Air side (heating / cooling)Air flow, inlet and outlet air temperature, allowable pressure drop, dust and moisture content
Gas side (flue gas / process gas)Gas flow, inlet and outlet temperature, composition analysis, dust loading, dew point
Fluid side (water / steam / thermal oil)Medium, inlet and outlet temperature, flow, working pressure, allowable pressure drop
Structure and installationAvailable space, duct connection positions, connection method, support and maintenance access
Material and inspectionCorrosion, cleanliness requirement, specified material, inspection standard and acceptance requirement
Project conditionsQuantity, delivery requirement, transport size limit, site installation support

If some parameters are not fixed, we can prepare an estimate first. The quotation will be marked as an estimate and the final price confirmed after the parameters are fixed.

Custom design process

StepContent
1 RequirementsConfirm medium, temperature, flow and installation boundary, and define the mandatory constraints
2 Thermal selectionCalculate surface area, velocity and pressure drop; select fin type, materials and structure
3 Proposal and quotationSubmit the technical proposal and itemised quotation, ex-works and including tax; freight is listed separately
4 Fabrication and inspectionManufacture to drawing and inspect to the agreed standard, with customer or third-party witness
5 Delivery and acceptancePack and ship, provide inspection documents and site support where required

Quotations are valid for 15 days. Estimate ranges: equipment ±15–25%, purchased components ±20–30%.

FAQ

How much more does a custom unit cost than a standard model?
There is no fixed multiplier. Material, fin type, fabrication process and inspection requirement matter more than size. A carbon steel unit and a 316L unit of the same size can differ by several times in cost. An itemised quotation is provided after the parameters are confirmed.
Can you give a price range from an approximate duty?
Yes, as an estimate. The normal range is equipment ±15–25% and purchased components ±20–30%. The final price is confirmed after the parameters are fixed, and the quotation is valid for 15 days.
Can we specify the material and inspection standard?
Yes. Material, inspection standard and acceptance requirements are followed as specified, including the inspection flow required by foreign equipment makers. We have series supply experience with a Japanese washing and drying equipment maker.
Can you handle unusual geometry or special media?
Yes. We design against air flow, gas flow, temperature and pressure, medium properties, installation dimensions and corrosion requirements. For special media, send the composition or compatibility requirement first so the material can be confirmed before quotation.
