Steam releases latent heat inside the tubes to heat air to the process temperature

A steam air heater, also called a steam heating coil, uses a finned tube bundle with steam inside the tubes. The steam condenses and releases latent heat, which is transferred to the air passing across the fins. Tube circuit and surface area are sized for the steam pressure, air flow and required leaving temperature, with condensate drainage and steam velocity checked in the design.
