Cooling coils are used in food processing, chemical cooling, cold storage, dehumidification and HVAC. The coil has to remove heat quickly and hold a stable leaving temperature without carrying condensate into the air stream.
Design drivers
- Cooling medium and required leaving temperature
- Air flow and face velocity
- Row depth and fin spacing
- Condensate drainage and cleaning access
- Material compatibility with the air and coolant
When condensation occurs
If the coil surface falls below the dew point, water condenses. A drain pan and proper slope are required, and fin surface treatment may be needed to help condensate leave the coil. Face velocity must be kept below the point where droplets are carried over.
Fouling and cleaning
Dusty or greasy air streams need wider fin spacing and access for cleaning. A coil that is difficult to clean will lose performance and may become a hygiene risk.
Mazelu builds cooling coils in copper, aluminium and stainless steel for HVAC, food, chemical and process duty.
